One day, Alice wakes up and realises she's spent longer mourning Alan than she ever did married to him.
She corrects herself almost immediately - she's still married to him, even after Barry convinced her to have him declared dead, still thinks of herself as his wife. But they've been apart now longer than they were together. Long enough that her memories of him are starting to be distant. Faded, like a photograph left in the sun too long.
Alice doesn't want that. Doesn't want to forget him.
Maybe that's why she still sees him in their apartment. A lingering memory.
